A few months ago I was finally able to pick up all my crafty stuff that I left behind in Germany, when we moved to Sweden and now I'm looking forward to use them again. Even though all of my stamps and dies are quite old, it doesn't feel like that. It feels like everything is new. There were many things I was really excited to use again, but I think that the thing I was the most excited about is my die-cutting machine. Finally I can use my stitched rectangular die and especially I can use my word dies, for some cards I missed those.
Since I will be using older materials that are probably no longer available, look through the store where you shop and see if you find some alternatives. Or make something similar with completely different products. That's exactly what I do, because most of the products others use, are quite difficult to get. Plus I don't want to copy others exactly.
As you can see, today I have a card for you with a background with balloons. I wanted to make a card with balloons for a while, I thought using watercolours, but as I was going through my stash with my dies, I saw a die-set with balloons, which I hardly used. I bought it at Simon Says Stamp years ago, despite of that it is still available. I shopped at SSS twice or three times ever since I started card making, but I don't shop there anymore. The cost of the postage and the waiting is just now worth it. However I absolutely love this die-set and I wanted to use it again.
I thought it would be fun to create a stencil and blend Distress inks. To create the stencil I used the smallest balloon and an acetate and run it through my die-cutting machine. Then I took a card stock that I cut down into size A6, I secured it with a washi tape so it doesn't move, I placed the stencil onto the card stock, also secured it with a washi and started blending. I wanted to create a sort of ombre effect, so I applied more saturated ink at the top of the balloon (top left side, to be more precise) and at the bottom I used less ink.
I used altogether nine inks, the exact colours I are:
- Mermaid Lagoon, Pine Needles, Mowed Lawn, Picked Raspberry, Abandoned Coral, Candied Apple, Seedless Preserves, Wilted Violet and Wild Honey. I made multiple cards, because it was fun to make them. For most of them I stamped the greeting last, but when I was making the video I tried to stamp it first. And I think it was a better option, as you then know where the balloons need to go. The greeting is from Avery Elle, it's really big. I used a stamping tool as the card stock I was using was textured, it did stamp well on some of the cards, but on others I had a few white spots. To fix it, I used a black marker and filled them in.
I wanted the balloons to have strings, so I first drew them with a pencil and then I went over it with a black fine liner.
Lastly I die-cut the panel using a stitched rectangular die and I adhered it on top of a card base that I made out of a craft card stock. To adhere the panel I used a simple double-sided tape. Hello, this is a lovely card. How did you achieve the effect of lighter specks on the balloons?
