I'm taking a little break from autumnal cards to create a few cards for Halloween. The first card is very simple one, using the wet on wet technique to create a very fun effect that looks like a fur. I came across this idea on the YouTube Channel makoccino, you can see the video here. I thought it was a really great idea and I wanted to try it out and at the same time create a Halloween card. The products you need are simple, black watercolour paint, brush and a watercolour card stock. You also need a pencil to draw the cat, if you have a Halloween sentiment stamp an black ink you can use it and you also need a card base. I started by drawing an outline of a cat. I used a normal pencil for it, but you can also use a watercolour pencil. And then I applied clean water all over the cat, not just inside of the outline, but I went a quite a bit outside of the pencil lines as well. This is very important to create the fluffy effect. Next I added the black paint and I added it only inside of the pencil lines. And since I applied clean water also outside of the outline, the paint seeped into the water and created the fluffy effect. I let the piece dry and then I painted the whiskers. I'm not sure if this was necessary, I think it looks cute without it as well. Then I added some splatter and also I applied the black paint along the edges of the watercolour panel to create a frame or border. When it comes to the card stock, even though I have never used it, I believe the 100% cotton watercolour paper would be the best for this effect. You need a card stock that absorbs the colour and spreads it around creating these veins. These veins can look like fur. I don't have this card stock as it's rather expensive, normally I would use the Canson XL watercolour card paper, but this card stock is not the best for this effect, it doesn't absorb the water very well. For this project I used the watercolour card stock from the company Tritart, I bought it on Amazon Germany. I think it did a decent job. However, if you do not care about this effect and just want to paint a cat then you can use what ever watercolour card stock you have. Also if you are like me and are not quick enough and the paper gets dry on the tale before you get to add the black paint. Start with the body of the cat and then continue with the tale. Two little tips I would give here, first clean your brush properly before applying the clean water to the tale, in the video my water is grey, because I forgot to clean my brush . And the second tip is, to get a smooth blend between the tale and the body of the cat. Apply some black paint onto the start of the tale, when you are working on the body. Lastly I adhered a sentiment that says Happy Halloween that I heat embossed in white on a black card stock and I adhered the whole piece on top of a white card base.
