Today I have for you a card where I used a very cute stamp set from Avery Elle, called Some Bunny and I’m going to use my watercolour pencils again.
I’m split in half if watercolour pencils are best for this kind of image. If I made the card again, without any video or blog post, I would use normal watercolours for the balloon. My watercolour pencils are the budget version from Faber-Castell, maybe if I had more professional pencils, the spreading of the colour would have been easier and more consistent. But I don’t care, I like these pencils and the colour on the balloon is not too bad. I’m making a birthday card, but I think this stamp set can be used for many other occasions. I made a card for my husband for our anniversary, it would be perfect for Valentine’s day, Father’s or Mother’s day and so on. I used the Mini Misti stamping tool as I was stamping on a watercolour card stock that is slightly rough and I needed to re-stamp. I stamped each stamp separately. I wanted the bunny to hold the balloon and for that I needed to mask him, or at least his hands.
First I stamped the bunny, using the Versafine ink in Onyx Black. Then I created a mask, by stamping the bunny on a piece of full-adhesive post-it note, cutting it out and placing the mask over the stamped bunny. Next I stamped the balloon and lastly the sentiment.
I could have stamped the balloon and the sentiment together, but because of the proportions of the balloon and the bunny, I wanted to make sure everything is cantered. And by stamping the sentiment last, it gave me better view of where I need to stamp. After I was done stamping I started watercolouring with the pencils. I applied first layer, let it dry for a bit and then I applied second layer. And here is probably another mistake I made, especially with the balloon. I didn’t let it dry properly, which might be also the reason why it looks streaky. However, using watercolour pencils is so simple, you first apply the colour across your image and then you use a damp brush to activate the colour and spread the colour across the image. I would say watercolour pencils are very good for beginners, as you have more control over the application, especially For bigger images I would use the typical watercolours in tubes or pans.
After everything was dry, I die-cut the panel using a stitched rectangular die and then I adhered it on top of a side-folding card using a double-sided tape.
It is very tempting to use a double-sided tape, but I knew I will be posting this card and therefore didn’t want to add to the bulk and the weight to it. Also I recently changed how I fold my vertical cards. Ever since I started card making, I made top folding cards - horizontal or vertical. I did this because it looked cook, it was something new. And when I started my blog, it is easier to photograph the card, as it stands nice. I think this is why most card makers do this. However, now photograph from top where my cards are laying flat on the table. This way I only need to pre-cut my card stock for card bases into one size, which is way easier to store. I hope you enjoyed this blog post and also watch the video. I’m not sure when I will be able to post next time, but I hope it’s going to be soon. And there are going to be some changes coming up, so stay tuned. For that I would recommend to follow me on my Instagram or YouTube. VIDEO TUTORIAL
