Last week I painted a landscape and I said that it is beginner friendly. Well, the painting in this blog post is even simpler than that. Not just as overall painting, but also as a misty forest. I watched some tutorials that were more complex. The products for this card are also minimal. All you need for the painting, is a watercolour card stock and watercolour paints. You need only one dark shade, the colour is up to you, I used turquoise and for the darkest shade I mixed it with black. You will also need brushes, it's good to have two sizes one for the background and the tree trunks and smaller for thiner brunches. As it is always with watercolour, you need water and a paper towel and I also used washi tape to attach my card stock to a board. To create the card, you will need a card base and an adhesive. I began by painting the background, doing the wet on wet technique. I began applying clean water all over the panel and then I added the colour. I started very light and slowly intensified the shade, with strokes that were more curved. I wanted to create a sort of ombre effect, having the lightest part in the middle and the darkest on the sides. And even on the sides I didn't want the colour to be too dark. Before the panel is dry, what you can do, is to add few trees. They will look more distorted and blurry. I didn't do that because on my trial card, I could not see them. So I let it fully dry and continued with the next step. Once the panel was dry I painted the trees. I started with the lightest shade of the paint and I just painted thicker lines for tree trunks and then I added a few brunches. I let each layer to dry and then I painted trees that were darker. Altogether I painted four layers. Last thing I painted, which is completely optional, is grass at the bottom of the panel. I used a long bristle brush, I dipped it in the paint and painted short lines. If you don't have a long bristle brush, you can use the tip of a round brush. Next I assembled the card. First I trimmed the panel. I used an A6 size card stock, which is always slightly bigger than the card base, so I trimmed it down by a few millimetres. I adhered it on the top of the card base that I made out of a craft card stock, using a simple double sided tape. For the sentiment, which is optional I used a stamp that says "Let's Celebrate". I heat embossed it in white on a black card stock that I cut into a banner. To adhere it, I used a foam tape, so it's little bit raised. If you don't have stamps, you could write the greeting with a black gel pen, you can also write it directly onto the watercolour panel. I hope you will try making this card yourself.
