I'm continuing with Mother's Day card ideas. While this might not help anyone from the UK or Ireland anymore as Mother's Day is this weekend, but if you are from the US, Germany, etc. you have plenty of time to make a card. The idea for today's card is to create a frame using alone standing stamps and colour the background with watercolours doing the messy watercolouring technique. If you followed my Christmas card series, this card might be familiar to you. I made a card with poinsettias, where I also stamped a frame, but the colouring was different. I coloured only some of the flowers and some of them I left white with black outlines. Today's card was actually an inspiration for the card, I made this card back in September and didn't have time to upload it, until now. The stamp set I'm using is from WPlus9 called Modern Roses. You do not need this exact stamp set, any stamp set with alone standing flower stamps will do. You can use other types of stamps as well, there are many possibilities. As I'm watercolouring, I'm using a watercolour card stock, watercolours and a round brush. The watercolour card stock I cut to the size of a long or slim line card, this way I can fit more flowers. There are other things I used and will mentioned them as I go, plus the list of products is at the end of this article. Before I started stamping I created a few masks. This is because some of the images will be overlapping and masks help to place the image in front of another image. I just stamped the the images from the stamp set onto Post-it notes that have a full adhesive on the back and I cut it out with my scissors. I started stamping and I stamped the greeting first. This gave me a better idea where I need to stamp the roses and the leaves. In the video I made a card, where I used the greeting Thinking Of You, but I also made a card that says Happy Birthday. The greeting is pretty much up to you and the occasion you are making the card for. Even though I'm making this card with the idea to be given for Mother's Day, I prefer to make make cards that I can personally use and having more neutral sentiment works for me better. Next I stamped the flowers, I wanted the bigger flowers to be in front and the smaller flower and especially the leaves were filler pieces, which I wanted to be behind. Here is where I used the masks. The process was like this: I stamped my first flower, left a small gap for the leafs and then I stamped the second flower. I placed the masks over the stamped images and then I stamped the leaves between the two flowers. After removing the masks the leaves were in the background. I repeated this process along the edges of the panel. As I was using a watercolour card stock, which has a texture, having a stamping platform is a benefit, because this allows you to re-stamp. There are many brands that make these platforms. I have two: a small one, the Mini MISTY and a bigger one from Tim Holtz. Even though I was using here a watercolour panel cut to fit the long or slim line card, I still used the Mini MISTY. I use the bigger one only when I have to, here the Mini MISTY worked just fine. Also the ink I used is the Versafine in Onyx black, which is a waterproof ink. The stamping is not a quick process, but the colouring is pretty fast. As I mentioned at the beginning, I did here the messy watercolouring technique, which means going outside of the lines, in a messy way. This technique is perfect for beginners, because perfection is not needed. I didn’t want the colouring to take too much time, so I applied very concentrated colours and I painted the flowers in various colours and I also left some space for the green leaves. In the end after the panel was dry I also added some splatter, but this is completely optional. After the panel was fully dry, I adhered it on top of a card base, which I didn't make myself, I bought it pre-made in a pack with envelopes. The reason why I prefer to buy is simple, I can make two card bases from A4 sized card stock but for these long cards I can make only one, plus there is a waste. For me it makes more sense to buy them pre-made. Lastly, to finish up the card I decided to add a few clear drops. I scattered them across the panel and to adhere them I used a liquid glue. I thought it gave a nice additional touch to the card. I hope you will try making this card yourself. Make sure you check out my video on YouTube and give it a Like as well.
