Watercolour Background & Heat Embossing A Pine Tree Frame | CHRISTMAS CARDS 2021 | Card 216/11/2021 I'm continuing witch my Christmas card series and today I'm making a card with a very simple look, which took quite some time to make. This card was inspired by an older card from Kristina Werner and you can see it here. Kristina created a card with a watercolour background and a frame die with pine needles. And the pine needles is what inspired me, because I have a stamp set from Winnie & Walter with bunch of Christmas foliage and I was looking for inspirations, where I could use this stamp set. I began by painting the background. Originally I was thinking using Distress inks to create the background, just to do something different. However, I'm going to be using Distress inks on quite a few cards, therefore I went with Kristina's idea and I painted the background using watercolours. And I also picked similar colours as she did, blues and greens. I started by wetting the whole card stock with a clean water and then I applied the colours randomly across the watercolour panel. Then I let it air dry. After it was dry the colours faded a little bit, for this reason I applied a second coat of the paint to intensify the colours. Once I was done and the panel was dry I started working on creating the frame with pine needles. As I mentioned Kristina used a frame die. I do not have anything like that, but I have a stamp with pine needles and I thought it would be a great idea to stamp it and heat emboss it in white. To stamp the pine needles I needed to use a stamping tool as I had to re-stamp few times. It was really difficult to get a good impression around the lower parts of the stamp. However, eventually I managed to stamp all the pine needles along the edges of the panel. When I created my trial card the stamping was really bad and you could see gaps in the stamping. This was mainly around the bottom part of the images. Hence, I decided to create a frame just to cover it. Normally I would use a die-cutting machine and rectangular dies in two sizes, but as I don't have a die-cutting machine at the moment, I went old school. I used an exacto knife and cut out a one centimetre thick frame out of a white card stock. I adhered the watercolour panel on top of a craft card base using a double-sided tape and over it I adhered the frame, for which I used a liquid glue, just to have a little bit of a wiggle room before it dries. Next I worked on the greeting. I stamped a sentiment saying "Wishing You A Cosy Christmas" from an older stamp set by Clearly Besotted. The sentiment is still available, but sadly doesn't contain the greeting anymore. I wanted a sentiment that is not too big or too small and that has a simple font, so I can cut it into a strip. To be honest, I would have preferred if "cosy" was the same font as the other words, but it still looks nice. I stamped the greeting onto a red card stock and heat embossed it using a white embossing powder. I cut it into a thin strip and adhered it in the middle, onto the panel with the pine needles, using double-sided foam squares. Lastly I decided to add few embellishments. I used two colours of the Nuvo drops and a few clear sequins in different sizes. I also used the Wink Of Stella Shimmer pen to add some sparkle across the white frame. This finishes the card.
