My last card for Valentine's day is actually an anniversary card. I mentioned this before, but me and my husband do not celebrate Valentine's day. One reason is that I just don't like this occasion, on our first Valentine's day I told him that I want to watch horror movies and eat pizza. He was very surprised about that. And the second reason is that our anniversary is close to Valentine's day and we just celebrate that. This is one of my card ideas for masculine cards, I prefer to make cards that are more fun. So if you need to make an Anniversary or Valentine's day card for the man in your life, this if definitely for you. I'm using the Week, Week, Week stamp set from Gerda Steiner Designs. It contains five stamps with guinea pigs, which is absolutely awesome. This is one of the reasons why I bought this stamp set as I can make a few different cards, using only one stamp set. I already made cards using this stamp set, one with the guinea pig holding a heart, which you can see here and the other where I created a wreath around the guinea pig using the smaller stamps, which you can see here. For the card today, I'm using the two guinea pigs that are facing each other and to colour them I decided to use Distress inks and I used them as watercolours. First I stamped the images on top of a Bristol card stock using the Versafine ink in Onyx black and then I coloured them. When I was colouring the smaller images I went outside of the lines, because on those images, after I cut them out, the white border didn't really fit. Of course you can cut right along the edges, without a border, but I prefer to have a little gap, just like if you would use dies. The guinea pigs, however, I painted normally, I didn't go outside of the lines. One guinea pig I painted brown and the other I painted grey and for both I used two shades of colour. As you can see on the photos, I cut out a few hearts, for those I used a stamp set with hearts and only because I had it. On the card I made for may husband, I drew the hearts using a fine liner. The inks I used for the painting are Peeled Paint and Forest Moss for the leaves (each leaf I pained with different shade), Candied Apple for the tomato and for the hearts I used Abandoned Coral and Picked Raspberry, which I mixed together. For the brown guinea pig I used Tea Dye and Vintage Photo and the grey guinea pig I painted with Hickory Smoke and Black Soot. Next I worked on the greeting. I do not have many stamps with a sentiment for anniversary. Actually except of the stamp I used, I think I only have one more, which was way too small. I stamped and heat embossed the greeting on a black card stock, using a white embossing powder and then I cut it into a banner. And not a typical banner, where you trim it at the top and the bottom with a paper trimmer. I didn't have too much space on my card and if I cut it that way, it would be too thick. So what I did here is, I used my crafting knife and a ruler, as well as scissors and cut around as close to the word as possible. The ruler and the craft knife was for the long straight lines and the scissors to cut smaller areas. This reduced the thickness of the banner and it looked much better. This card was quite a challenge, I think I struggle every time I use stamps with critters and often don't know what to do. The problem was, when I assembled the cut out images on my card base, there was too much of white space. This is OK for some card designs, here it needed something extra. Luckily, since I made this card after I made the card where I drew hearts with a black marker, it gave me the idea to draw a big heart in the middle, directly onto the card base. Just an outline, nothing special. Splatter would be another thing you cold do. To make sure the heart is symmetric and same on each side, I created a stencil and then I drew around it, directly on the card base, using my pencil. Then I used a black marker and went over the pencil line. Btw. in my video I showed an extra background that I created using the negative space of the stencil and Distress inks, so make sure you watch that video. Lastly I adhered all the pieces together. The guinea pigs and the sentiment I adhered using a double-sided foam tape. For the other images I also used a foam tape, but some of them I adhered using a liquid glue. The leafs I attached below the guinea pigs, like they are standing in a sea of salad. They were quite tedious to adhere as the foam tape hat to be extra tiny, but I like the end result, so it was worth it. That is all for this card, I hope you will try making this card yourself, you don't really need the exact stamp set, just something similar.
