Cherry Blossom Spring Card With Pastel Background | DISTRESS INK COLOUR COMBINATION #26 + VIDEO2/4/2023 I've been waiting for spring to arrive since February and it just doesn't want to come, so let's make a spring card while I'm waiting. I haven't make a background with a new Distress ink colour combination for a while and I had an idea for a pastel colour combination that is really pretty. I wanted to have a nice spring flower on top of the card and after I searched my stash, I found a stamp set from Clearly Besotted with an image of cherry blossoms. This stamp is quite old, but this card is not about the stamp, but the background. If you think about it, most of the time you do not need to use the same stamp set the crafter is using. You can create something similar with other stamp set. Therefore use what ever flower stamp set you already have. I started by die-cutting my card stock using a stitched rectangular die. I did this at the beginning as I like the darker shade around the edges when ink blending. This part is optional. After that I stamped and heat emboss the image onto the card stock, using a white embossing powder. The card stock I used is from the company Papermill Direct, which is an UK company. You can use any other card stock that you like when blending with Distress inks, e.g. I often use the Canson XL watercolour paper. Next I started with the blending. The inks I used are:
I applied two layers. Most of the time when blending Distress inks I need to apply multiple layers. After the first layer it often looks bland or even really bad and I'm ready to throw it to the bin. However once I apply a second or third layer and work on blending the colours together, the background comes alive. So, if you do not like the results after applying the first layer, try to apply one or two more. And of course, the type of card stock you are using and how juicy your inks are plays a role. The colours I used, while very pretty, they were very light and the heat embossed image looked a little bit lost. Therefore I decided to use the Distress inks as watercolours and colour the image. I picked different inks that are slightly darker and a brown ink for the tree branch, but you can use the same inks that I used for the blending. The inks I used are: Picked Raspberry, Pine Needles and Ground Espresso. Since I was using Distress inks, I added splatter across the panel using a clean water and then with a paper towel I soaked it up. Distress inks react with water and create really cool effect. I squeezed the inks onto a laminated card stock, any slick surface would do. With my water-brush I picked the inks and coloured the image. I didn't do anything special, all I wanted is the image to stand out a bit. Next I adhered the panel on top of a grey card base. For the greeting I used a different stamp, as I wanted it to be neutral. The greeting I heat embossed in white on a black card stock, cut it into a banner and adhered it using a foam tape. You can use what ever greeting you want. I think this card would be perfect as Mother's Day card. Lastly I added a few Nuvo drops across the panel. The drops I used are Carnation Pink and Morning Dew Crystal Drops and Limoncello Jewel Drops.
