I really love these big stamps with flowers and flower bouquets, but they are often so expensive. Not all of them, but the ones in my budget are usually sold out. So I thought I will try to draw something myself. Even though I have been painting (mainly watercolouring) for past two years, drawing is something different and I find it intimidating. Just making the lines meet when you are drawing a circle is quite a challenge. However, there are a few flowers and leaves that I can draw and I just put them into a sort of a bouquet. I started with a sketch in my sketch book. I drew a big daisy (or something like a daisy) and then I added a few branches with leaves, additional flowers and some berries. Then I digitilized it in Procreate, so I can print it. I still need to work on making the sketches digital, but as my first try, it looks pretty good. And yes, you can download not just the sketch, but the card as well for free here. The card stock I used is the Canson Bristol, which I really like when colouring with pencils. I have the Prismas as well as the Polychromos and I decided to use the Prismas as I had a specific colour combination for the daisy in my head and the pencils in my Prisma set matched perfectly. It is really funny, because both brands have a Magenta, but the Prisma pencil is more pink and the one from Faber-Castell is on the red side. The way I tend to colour, not just with pencil, is to create a depth. I do not think where the light source is, if anything it is always coming from front. I apply the colour either lightest in the middle and darkest on the sides, or darkest at the bottom and lightest on the top. The first option I used for the middle of the big flower and the second option I used on everything else. I also added some darker shade (in this case Sepia) if there is a leaf or petal overlapping and there would naturally be some shade. The exact colours of the Prisma pencils I used are:
I was applying the colours in layers, starting very light pressure for the first layer and on the additional layers I applied a little bit more pressure. I was building the colour slowly, by applying multiple layers of the pencil. On the petals of the two types of flower, I did a few flicks with the pink, orange and purple to create a little bit of texture. Once I was happy with the look, I fussy cut the image, just like I would if I had a stamp without a die. I mainly cut around the outer edges, especially on the left side of the bouquet, I left a lot of white space as it would have been too fiddly to cut out. And I was using a white card base, where it's hardly noticeable. Originally I was planning to do one layer card, but the pencil left behind a little bit of residue which I wasn't able to erase. It only happens with the Prismas. However, I'm happy I cut it out as it makes the end result more interesting, as I used double-sided foam squares that are slightly higher then the foam tape I usually use. But before I adhered the bouquet onto the card base, I first stamped the greeting. I searched my stash, looking for a sentiment that fits with the bouquet. I found a stamp that says Just For You and I think it fits very well. After I adhered the bouquet, I decided to add a little bit of sparkle in the form of sequins. I used a liquid glue to attach them, some I tacked under the image and some I glued on top of the card base. I hope you will try making this card yourself.
