Halloween is here and so are Halloween cards. Every year I decide that I'm not going to make any cards for this occasions, because while they are fun to make, I don't think this a card giving occasion, unless you are making invitations. If you give cards on Halloween, let me know what you write in the card, I'm really interested. And this year was no different, I thought I will skip Halloween cards and ended up making three. My first card for this year is actually a replica of a Halloween card I made on my old blog and it was also my first video on my YouTube channel, which you can see here. The main difference between this card and the card I made originally, you can see the card here, is the background. Previously I used Distress inks to create the sky and the ground and here I used watercolours. The card stock I used is also different, for today's card I used a watercolour card stock I bought in the shop Flying Tiger. Otherwise the rest is the same. I started by creating the background and I went from dark blue on the top (later I added little bit of black), purple, pink and yellow (which turned orange around the places that mixed with the pink). I left the bottom part clear as there will be the ground. I applied two layers and I dried them, before applying a new layer. After the second layer was dry, it looked very bright and too happy for a halloween card. So I took the black paint, which I diluted down with water and created a light wash of clouds. I just did this dabbing motion and covered the whole sky. I even mixed the other colours. I let that dry and then I painted in a silhouette of a hill. On the right I created a hill that is higher, as I wanted the stamped house to be higher than the rest of the images. Next I stamped the images. The stamp set I used is the Spooky Street stamp set from Newton's Nook Designs and the ink is the Versafine ink in Onyx black. I stamped the house, tree and the grave yard at once. As these are solid images and the card stock I was using had a lot of texture, using a stamping tool was a must, since I knew I will have to re-stamp. I re-stamped twice and still had a few spots that didn't stamp well. At this point I decided to use a black marker to cover those spots. This might be a solution, if you do not have a stamping tool. I also stamped three bats, which surprisingly didn't need any re-stamping. Originally I was going to stamp the greeting right below the house, over the hill silhouette, using a white embossing powder. However it didn't fit the hill, that's why I created a banner instead. I took a strip from the same watercolour card stock, painted it bright green and stamped the greeting, which says Happy Halloween and is from a different stamp set by Clearly Besotted. There are sentiments included in the stamp set with the haunted house, but I didn't like any of them, or better said - they didn't fit to what I had in mind. Lastly I adhered the watercolour panel on top of a white card base using a simple double-sided tape and the greeting I adhered below the house using a double sided foam tape.
