Even though it is the end of the summer, I wanted to paint a sunflower. Painting a sunflower is super easy, even if you are a beginner and have never painted a sunflower before, you will be able to do it. I’m a beginner myself and because of that I’m not going to do anything complicated or overly detailed, as I have no idea how to do it.
This is also part one of two, therefore don’t forget to come back! For this project I’m going to be using gouache, but you can also use normal watercolours. If you are not familiar with gouache, it is a water-soluble medium and it is similar to watercolours, but it’s more opaque and when it dries, it’s matte. LITTLE TIP: Gouache is typically sold in tubes, but I saw some artists squishing them into little pans, like watercolours. I had a spare tin with half-pans and I thought it’s a great idea, so I squeezed them out into the pans. I’m not sure, if it’s because I had cheap paints or this is typical to gouache. I filled the pans fully and it took them few days to dry and after they dried they decreased in volume. Also not every colour was the same constancy. The yellow-brown was very thick, for example. When I was painting, they were quite difficult to re-activate and were drying very quickly. I would definitely not recommend squeezing gouache into pans. Just get a plastic palette with wells and work with smaller amounts. QUICK OVERVIEW OF THE SUPPLIES
