I had different plan for today's card. I was planning to paint the flower using acrylic paints. The problem is that I'm not used to painting with acrylic and I always struggle with the paint. I'm always surprised how much paint one needs to paint even a simple card. After trying a few colour combinations, not able to decide, I thought of trying out the metallic watercolours that I showed you in my Card Making Haul video. I really liked the results, but now I was stuck. Shall I stick with my original idea and paint with acrylics or use the metallic watercolours. As I could not decide which one to make, so I asked you on YouTube and Instagram and you picked the one I painted with metallic watercolours.
I used a black card stock as metallic paints really pop. I attached it onto a board using a washi, this helps to prevent warping.
First I drew a circle for the center of the flower in the corner of my card stock. You could actually use a full sheet of the watercolour paper and paint the whole flower and then cut it into four pieces to create four cards. Maybe I will do this in the future, maybe with acrylics. Next I started painting. I painted first the petal that is pretty much in the middle and I painted two lines for the outline and then I filled it in with the paint, doing long curved strokes following the shape of the outline.
You can paint the petals using only one colour, but I wanted the petals to be distinguishable from one other, therefore I used two shades of pink. The second pink was a bit too light, so I added a few strokes using an orange metallic.
I let the piece dry a bit and then on some petals I added second layer. One more thing left to paint is the center of the flower. I used a golden paint and painted it doing dubbing motion with my brush.
Once the panel was dry, I used a stitched rectangular die and run it through the die-cutting machine and I adhered the panel on top of a card base that I made out of a craft card stock. I didn't add a greeting as the card doesn't really need it.
