Today would be the day when I post a full video, but because I didn't have the time to film it, I decided that instead skipping a post, I upload another quick card. This is one more addition to the Watercolour Fun series and I'm painted a sunflower.
Sun flowers are very easy to paint. Just like with the watermelon I already painted a sunflower, one big sunflower on a black card stock, which you can see HERE and I also painted a background with sunflowers and that you can see HERE. If you want a tutorial, these two might be better for you, as the video for today cards is just a quick one. For both I used a gouache, but you can also use watercolours, which I'm using for the painting today.
You only need watercolours, watercolour card stock and some brushes to paint the sunflower. And of course you also need a jar or two with water and a paper towel just in case you have too much water on the brush. I don't mention what size of the brush I'm using, because the way I choose a brush is on the feeling, what brush feels best. I try few brushes and then I pick one. I definitely do not have a favourite brush.
I started painting a circle using a brown paint, I let it dry, which I did after each part I painted. Then I painted the first layer of petals using a bright yellow, the second layer I painted with darker yellow and I placed the petals between the bright yellow ones. Lastly I painted the stem and the leafs, which I find so difficult. I'm not the best at painting leafs, they always end up looking awkward and the leafs on the sunflower do look little bit like salad leafs, but I still like it. Let's call it a loose interpretation of the leafs.
Anyways. Next added little bit of a splatter using the green, brown and golden paints. I don't know what is it about splatter, but often I feel like the painting looks empty, to me splatter is a form of an embellishment. Another thing I did, I painted the edges of the card stock using a gold paint, which I think helps the card to come together. It sort of creates a frame. There are other things you can do, you can use a a black fine liner to create the frame, you can also use a darker card stock that is slightly bigger and glue it underneath the watercolour panel and if you have a die-cutting machine, then you can always use a die, e.g. a stitched rectangular or scalloped die.
I also stamped a sentiment, but as I always say, this is optional. And as the splatter wasn't enough, I added a few Nuvo drops here and there and let it dry
And lastly I adhered the panel on top of a card base that I made using a craft card stock. If you do not have a card base, you can always use a bigger watercolour card stock, fold it in half and paint on the front half. Keep in mind, if you are folding a thick card stock, like watercolour card stock, it might crack.
