I really like these quick cards, mainly because there is hardly any work for me, but also because they are actually very easy to make. You could say most of my cards are very quick and simple, but not all.
This is the third cactus I'm painting, this time with watercolours. Previously I painted one with acrylics and multiple ones, just silhouettes using watercolours and an alcohol marker. Actually I didn't only make a card, in the video I painted a bigger piece that I eventually will put on a wall. I started by painting the main middle part of the cactus using a green paint and then I painted two additional brunches. I applied two layers of the paint. To create a ground on which the cactus is standing, I use a brown paint and scribbled paint below the cactus. I let everything dry and then I painted vertical stripes.
I have troubles painting lines with brushes, so I bought a glass calligraphy pen to see if that makes it easier. I still have to practice, but I prefer using something solid for the lines, then a bendy brush. To use the glass pen with watercolours, I used my brush to apply the colour. Again, this I also need to practice, just to get the feel how much water I need to get it flow, otherwise it will drip and destroys the painting.
Next I drew the spikes that are on the cactus and for that I used a black fine liner and I drew little V-shapes across the cactus. If you are just creating a painting, here is where you would finish. For the card I added a sentiment. I stamped the words "have a great day" right below the cactus, across the brown part.
It's probably just in my head, but I thought it still needs something. So I used the fine liner and drew a black frame.
Lastly I adhered the panel on top of a white card base using a double side tape. You can see a quick video of me making this card on my YouTube channel or Instagram and make sure you subscribe/follow. QUICK TUTORIAL
