Simple Colouring Of A Printed Pumpkin Using Waterbased Markers & Making A Halloween Card + VIDEO27/10/2023

There are a few occasions that I do not like making cards for. Not because I hate making them, but because I do not have use for them. Halloween is one of those occasions. What do you even need to make Halloween cards for? Well, unless you are sending invitations to a party, which is something I don't do. Therefore buying Halloween products for card making is for me waste of money and I stopped buying them altogether. And every year I tell myself, this is going to be the year I do not make any Halloween cards. So far I managed to make two or shree, but I thought this year is going to be such year. I had nothing! However, I came across an outline image that I liked, downloaded it and did a simple colouring.
The picture I found on the website Freepik. Since I have a blog and YouTube channel I am being very careful to use royalty free images, so I found a few websites that offer such images. Freepik is one of those websites and I recently discovered that they also have plenty other things. Things like outline images that you can download and colour.
So I went to this website and searched for "Halloween outline" and found an image that I liked. A pumpkin with a witch hat. You can download it here.
I downloaded it and before I printed it I placed it in a word document. I first made sure that the document is in the size of my card, A6 and then I placed the image into the document, adjusted the size and added a greeting. Then I printed it out and I was ready to colour. NOTE: If you are printing on an e.g. A6 paper, before you print make sure you adjust the size of the paper to A6.
For the printing I used a watercolour card stock that is a bit thinner - 200gsm. Normally I would use 300gsm, but when I tried printing on it, it didn't work. Bristol card stock worked for me as well.
Since this is a lighter watercolour card stock I knew I have to be careful with the water. This is why I picked waterbased markers for the colouring. You can use normal watercolours, just be careful with how much water you use. And if you are using different card stock, use colouring method meant for that paper. I didn't do anything complicated with the colouring. My colouring is very basic. I'm not one of the people who really think about the shadows and highlights, for that I do not have the patience. Not that I do not think about the shading at all, but it's very simple. Mainly the highlights are in front and the shadows in the back or where I feel like there would be a shadow. E.g. in this image under the hat.
I'm not sure if I ever mentioned in a blog post, but in my videos I often say "I'm not good at shading", but the truth is I don't really care. I'm not interested to learn. I don't know if what I'm doing is good or bad, it's just my way of shading. Quick and simple. So I should stop saying I’m not good, just because my preference is more simple and I like the results.
This is the kind of shading I did here. I used two shades of each colour, or if I didn't have two I used a water-brush pen, which I also used for blending. To add a little bit of sparkle to the image, for the buckle on the hat I used a gold gel pen, which has a little bit of glitter in it and for the moon I used a shimmer pen.
At this point I would adhere it onto a card base, but as I mentioned I do not have any use for Halloween cards. So what I decided to do instead, is to put it into a picture frame and use it as a Halloween decoration. My only Halloween decoration.
I hope I inspired you to do some colouring, whether you decide to make a card or put it into a picture frame. Make sure you check out my video on YouTube and give it a Like as well.
