As Father's Day is next week, I have one more masculine card for you. It is the card that I made to give my dad and my father-in-law and my step dad. Yes I am giving the same card design to all of them. This is for two reasons, I usually make masculine cards using stamps and I have specific style. I like stamps that are cute and fun, but not too childish. I do not have too many of those stamps and I don't shop too often, last time I bought stamps was two years ago. So after I make a purchase, I don't want to make different cards and end up not having any new stamps for the next card. Plus this way I keep better track on what cards I gave, instead of giving duplicates I used another stamp set from Avery Elle, this one has a shark. Sadly, I just checked, it is no longer available. And since I was creating a sea scene, I wanted to create background with waves, which is the main part of this card. You can paint waves using watercolour or acrylic paints or you can use a stencil and inks. There are stencils for waves, but I don't have one, what I do have is a stencil with clouds, which can be used to create waves as well. All you need to do is to work the other direction, because if you flip the cloud background you will get a background with waves. I secured the card stock panel that I cut down into size A6 using a washi tape and I also used the washi to secure the stencil in place. I worked from top to bottom, where the top was the actual bottom. I placed the stencil about 4 - 5 cm from the top and started blending. For the blending I picked up the Blueprint sketch Distress ink. I was inspired by a few cards by Michelle Short, where she applied the ink, which was fading into the white. You can see one of the cards here, so you know what I mean. I really liked it and I wanted to create something similar, something like an ombre effect. For the waves I would have done it anyway, but I wanted the top to fade into white I created altogether three layers of the waves, for the first one I applied multiple layers of the ink to get a the darkest shade. Then I moved the stencil further up, I also changed the design of the clouds - the stencil comes with four designs - and I applied the ink in slightly lighter shade. And for the last layer I used the lightest application, then I removed the stencil and finished blending the ink above the last layer of the waves, just lightly, so it blends into the white. Next I worked on the shark. I stamped and coloured it with the Zig brush markers and water brush pen. I wanted to use watercolour pencil, mainly because I used the Zigs for quite a few recent cards and also on my first card for my Masculine/Father's Day Card Series. Not only that, I used the same Grey Blue marker for that card. However, the watercolour pencils came out too light and I thought that the Grey Blue was better fitting. I also used two shades of yellow for the crown and black for the inside of the mouth. For the black I didn't use the water brush pen. I cut out the shark using my scissors, but the bottom I cut using a guillotine, this way I got a straight cut. I was planning to stamp the greeting directly onto the panel with waves, right at the top, which I did for the cards that I didn't film, but for this card I placed the last wave too high and I wasn't sure if the greeting would look good. Therefore I decided to heat emboss the greeting on a black card stock, using a white embossing powder. This greeting is quite big, especially after cut into a banner. So I made sure to cut the banner very close to the words, this makes the banner thinner. I quickly run the background with the waves through my die-cutting machine using a stitched-rectangular die and then I assembled the card. I adhered the shark at the bottom of the panel and the greeting at the top. I did place it above the waves and I think it looks OK, which means I could have stamped it directly, but I think the black of the banner, gives additional colour to the card. For both the banner and the shark I used a double-sided foam tape. Next I adhered the panel on top of a white card base and lastly I adhered a few clear droplets to represent bubbles in the water. I hope you will try making this card yourself. Make sure you check out my video on YouTube and give it a Like as well.
