Simple Last Minute Beginner Friendly Christmas Cards | Christmas Cards Ideas 2022 #11 + VIDEO16/12/2022 One week to go until Christmas, not much time left to make complicated cards. For this reason, I decided to make two cards where I painted simple stripes to create a Christmas three, for one I used acrylic paints and for the other I used watercolours. These cards are very quick to make, so if you realize that you are missing a card and are in a need of a quick design, this is for you. For both cards I used budget friendly products, there is no need to spend too much money, if you want to be crafty. The watercolours I bough at Lidl (similar to Aldi) and the acrylic paints I found on Amazon, it was one of the cheapest sets. I wanted the card colours to look similar and because I find mixing watercolours quite tedious, therefore I mixed the acrylics to try create similar colours of those on the watercolour tree. To make the cards more festive, I used a gold paint for some of the stripes and the star. While the acrylic paint set included gold, the watercolour set didn't, so I picked the Gansai Tambi Stary Colours set from Kuretake. To paint the lines I used a flat brush in the size 1/4 inch. You can use other brushes, if you do not have this exact brush. Just keep in mind, if you are using an A6 card (A2 in the US), the bigger brush you use, the less stripes you will be able to fit in. Before I painted the tree I wrote the greeting, just with a a pencil to see where I need to stop when painting the tree. My handwriting is all over the place, very inconsistent and writing the greeting with a pencil first, gives me the ability to adjust it, before I used more permanent colour. Next I painted the tree. For my first card I used the acrylic paints, starting with a thinner line at the top, painting the lines wider and wider, stopping above the greeting, leaving enough space for the stem. I let the piece dry and work on the watercolour piece in the mean time, painting it in the exact way as the one I painted with the acrylics. After the panels were dry I painted the stem and the star at the top of the tree using the golden paint. I haven't painted a star for a while and I thought I messed it up, but luckily I was able to correct it. If you have never painted a star before, do a test run on a side and practice a bit. At this point I also went over the greeting with a black fine liner, I waited for a minute or two, to make sure it's dry and then I erased the pencil lines. The next thing I wanted to do is to add a few decorations, ornaments across the tree. Just small circles using the red paint. However, as I was squeezing out the red acrylic paint, the paint was too thick and I do not have any thinning products that I could use. I could have left it without any decorations, it looks good without them, but I had a specific look in my head and I really wanted the decorations to be there. As a card maker I have many products that I can use to embellish my card and one of them are Nuvo Drops. This is a liquid substance in a bottle, that you squeeze out and when it hardens it looks like enamel dots. I do not like to use such products for cards like these, as they suppose to be beginner and budget friendly, with supplies that are easy to get. I hope you don't mind, if you don't have the Nuvo drops, you can just use the paints, which was my original idea anyway. Plus using the paints, is quicker as the Nuvo Drops require a drying time. And I was really happy that I added the red ornaments as it gives the tree something extra. I could have used the paints for the watercolour tree, since there I had no problems, but I wanted to keep the look of the trees similar. Lastly I adhered both panels on top of a card base using a double sided tape. I hope you will try making this card yourself. Make sure you check out my video on YouTube and give it a Like as well.
