Today’s Christmas card is the last one in my Holiday card series. I do have more stamp sets, but I think seven cards is enough.
I did a simple pencil colouring and coloured a cute reindeer on a kraft card stock. Since I live in Sweden, I had to make a card with a reindeer, right? Although I don’t think there are any reindeers where I live, but we did see an elk in our neighbour’s garden. This card I actually made for my husband for last year’s Christmas and this is actually my take on masculine cards. The stamp set I used is from Gerda Steiner Designs and it’s called Little Reindeer. I stamped it directly on top of the card base, for which I used a kraft card stock. The two little birds that are part of the stamp set I stamped, so they are sitting on the reindeer’s antlers and I also used the sentiment that came with the stamp set and I stamped it below the reindeer.
The card stock I used is little bit slick, therefore I let the stamped images to dry for about fifteen minutes, before I started colouring. And even then I covered the sentiment with a post-it tape, just in case it wasn’t fully dry.
I mentioned this few times before, but I’m not good at shading. There are people who are very detailed, when it comes to shading and really take their time to understand it. I admire those people, because I just don’t care enough. I enjoy colouring, but I don’t want it to take forever. However, I do try at least do little bit of shading, so the image is not too flat. Normally I would have the light hitting the image from the front, but this time I decided to try it form the side, hitting it from the right and having the left side darker. I’m not sure if I did a good job, but I like the end result.
The colouring pencils I’m using are the Faber-Castell Polychromos, but you can use any other pencils, this project is about colouring on a kraft card stock, not about the brand of the pencils. I also have the Prismas, but I don’t like to mix them with the Polychromos as they are oil based and Prismas are wax based. And the way I choose, which I brand I use, is simple. I look at my swatch card and depending on the colours and shades I have in my head for the particular image that’s the brand I pick.
However, if you want to know which colours I used here is a list: REINDEER’S BODY: 177, 283, 180 REINDEER’S FEET: 199, 176 REINDEER’S NOSE: 217, 219 GROUND UNDERNEATH THE REINDEER: 274, 231 BIRD’S BODY: 199, 274 BIRD’S BEAK: 115 BIRDS’ HAT: 217, 219 - 231, 101 LIGHTS ON THE ANTLERS: 249, 141 - 217, 219 - 158, 112 - 149, 110 - 115, 111 DECORATIONS ON THE ANTLERS: 184, 185 - 247,120 - 264, 163
In the video I swapped the greens, I wanted to use the bright green on the lights, but the pencils look the same and I used it on the decoration and also I was going to use a golden colour that I have from Prismas to colour the metal parts of the decorations and the lights, but I forgot.
Lastly I thought the red nose of the reindeer needed to be little bit more special. So I applied the Glossy Accents from Ranger on the nose to make it shiny. My bottle of the Glossy Accents is almost empty and I had problems squeezing it out, only when editing I thought that I could have used the Nuvo drops. I have them in clear and red. Oh, well… maybe next time. The nose needed some time to dry, but otherwise the card is finished. I kept it simple and didn’t add any embellishments, but you can add them if you want. Thank you for visiting, have a wonderful day and happy crafting! And Merry Christmas! VIDEO TUTORIAL
