Simple Watercolour Backgrounds & Flowers Stamped With Black Ink Using Minimal Supplies + VIDEO22/9/2021 I mentioned few times before that I get a lot of my inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest. Especially on Instagram, I follow a lot of card makers and watercolour and other artists. Often I come across a card or painting idea that I like and I start thinking what I could do, if I can make a card, which stamp set I could use and so on. And as I was browsing through Instagram I cam across the account ArtsyBeats. The artists name is Deeksha Vipad and her art is drawing flowers and painting simple backgrounds. At leats that’s how I would describe it. Make sure you check her out, she is really talented. What inspired me were the backgrounds. I love finding new (or old) background ideas. The drawing is impressive as well, but I cannot draw. However I have a lot of stamps with flowers and black ink. And I immediately was thinking about two stamp sets I have from Create A Smile, because I have never used them before. Sometimes you just need a good inspiration. There are so many backgrounds you can create. In this blog post, I’m sharing two of them. The supplies are very minimal, you need watercolours, watercolour paper, brushes, black ink and a stamp set. You can use what ever stamp set you want, I would say that any floral stamp set is great for this. I also used a painters tape, thin washi for masking and a card base. The first background is directly inspired by this Instagram account. The idea is to paint diagonal lines, going in different directions. From top to bottom, left to right. I used a flat brush to paint the lines, but you can use a round brush as well. I just think flat brush is better suited for this. I secured the card stock onto a board using a painters tape and I painted the stripes using the colour yellow. I let the piece dry and then I stamped the flowers with a black ink. The stamp set I used is from Create A Smile and it’s called In Bloom. I stamped the flowers and some leafs across the card stock. As this particular stamp set doesn’t have any sentiments, I used the sentiment “smile” that is part of the stamp set I used on the second card. After I was done stamping I put the piece aside and started working on the second card. While I’m sure that you can find similar background in the Instagram account that inspired the first card, this is not where I got the idea. Last year I made and even filmed a similar card, but I have never uploaded it. It was little bit boring. You can see a short clip with this card in my video. For the second background I used a thin washi, about 0.7mm thick. And I attached it on to the panel, creating a striped pattern, similar to the pattern on the first card. I made sure the washi tape is adhered properly, so that the water doesn’t seep through. I will use my heat tool to loosen it up, before I will start removing it, the same for the painters tape. This makes it easier to take off the tape. The application of the paint here is very simple. I did a simple wash of colour, here I used green. You could do a gradient or use different colours in each section within the washi pattern. This is completely up to you, just as the choice of colour. I let the panel dry and then I stamped the flowers, same as I did on the first card. This time I used the Botanical Love stamp set also from Create A Smile. Lastly I adhered the panels on top of a card base using a double-sided tape. And that’s it. Super simple!
