I was planning to use another stamp set for today’s card. After I finished the two previous cards with the row of tulips and the row of daffodils, I realized I have a third stamp set with a row of poppies. It would have made a nice trilogy, but for that stamp set I have other things in mind and I will use it other time.
So I used the second stamp that is in the tulip stamp set, well I made these cards last year, those beautiful times when I had my die cutting machine. I really like this stamp with the three tulips, it’s a smaller stamp, but as always I struggle what to do with such stamps and end up doing the same layout over and over. I just stamp and colour, die-cut or fussy cut, create some kind of a background, adhere it in the middle of the card and stamp a sentiment.
Just in the past six months I used this layout on, the guinea pig card, the snowflake card, the monster card and also on this tulip card. And this is why I made a second card. Don’t get me wrong, I love how the card with the single die cut flowers turned out. I love making quick and easy cards, but I was like… come on, do something different. So I did.
For both cards I stamped the image using the Versafine ink in Onyx black onto a watercolour card stock and I coloured them with the Koi water brush markers from Sakura. These are water-based markers, many other companies make those. I used purples, pinks, reds and yellows for the flowers and greens for the stem and leafs. And then I die-cut the flowers all at once.
For the simple card, I created a background. Normally I would use a separate panel that I would adhere on top of the card base, especially if I use water. This time however, I created the background directly on the card base. I did the ink smooshing technique. Usually people use ink pads, like Distress inks for this technique. I used the Distress inks on the cards with the snowflakes, but to keep my supplies to minimum, I just used one of the water-based markers. I scribbled yellow marker onto an acetate, used my water brush to add little bit of water, turned it over and squished it onto the card base.
The card base I’m using is not made out of watercolour card stock and at one point I thought I ruined the card base. It seemed like the water damaged the paper and it looked little bit rough. But once the card stock was dry, it smoothened out. Next I stamped a sentiment and I adhered the die-cut tulips over the background using double-sided tape. And lastly, a thing I keep on forgetting to use, I adhered few embellishments. I used the Ice Cube mix jewels from Lucy’s Cards and I just scattered them around the flowers and adhered them using the Multi Medium Matte adhesive from Ranger.
For the second card I decided to stack few of the flowers on the edge of the card base. Some of the flowers I adhered directly using a glue pen, some I adhered using a double-sided foam tape, for some I used mix of those. I used a glue pen, because it’s easy to handle, but you can use any liquid adhesive.
After I adhered the flowers, I stamped the sentiment. I prefer to stamp the sentiment before I adhere the stamped images, especially if I’m using a foam tape, but I didn’t know the exact placement of all the flowers, therefore I stamped the sentiment after I adhered the die cuts. And lastly, just as I did on the first card, I added few embellishments. This time I used clear drops, they are bigger than the jewels and I thought it’s much more fitting for so many flowers.
