Stamping With A Real Maple Leaf Using Acrylics & Painting With Brusho Powder Watercolours + VIDEO7/10/2022 I really enjoyed making my last two cards, where I used real leaves for stamping using acrylic paints and creating a beautiful autumnal backgrounds. So for the card today I'm doing it again, but with different colouring medium. This time I only used one leaf, a maple leaf that fits the card. To stamp the leaf I picked a white acrylic paint again to create a faux heat embossed look. I applied the paint all over the leaf and then I pressed it onto the watercolour card stock and let it dry. I used the Canson XL watercolour paper that I cut down slightly smaller than A6 size and I secured it to a board to avoid warping. Once the leaf impression was dry I started with the colouring. I picked watercolours again, but this time I used the Brusho powders, which are watercolours in powder form. However, if you do not have these powders, just use normal watercolours. For this card I decided to paint only the leaf and leave the background without any colour. I did the wet on wet technique again. I started applying a clean water all over the leaf and then I sprinkled the powders over it. I used red, scarlet and orange and just played with the colours. I used my brush to help the colours to spread around. At places where I thought it needed more colour I sprinkled additional powder. I also mixed the powder with water in a separate mixing palette and applied the colour that way. You can actually only do this, instead of sprinkling them over the leaf. Did I have any troubles while painting? Of course I did! The problem was actually with the paints when they mixed together. I originally in addition to the colours I eventually chose for my final card, I also wanted to use yellow and brown. Yellow being my main colour and then I would add different colours over it. The bright yellow turned into dull ugly beige and the parts where I added brown turned grey and green. It was very strange how the colours reacted. Also on my previous card, where I used the typical watercolours, you could still see the white paint, at least on some parts. Here the paints completely changed the colour of it and you could not see the white anymore. Another tricky part was not sprinkling the powder outside of the leaf, because you cannot just brush it away. I put a tissue next to it, when I was applying the powders, not to sprinkle outside of the leaf. But if you are having troubles, you can mix the powders with water on a separate palette to avoid it. After the paint was dry I added a little bit of splatter and then I also covered the edges of the watercolour panel with a brown paint to create a frame. Lastly I adhered the panel on top of a card base made out of craft card stock and I also adhered a greeting that I pre-made. The greeting says Have A Great Day and I stamped and heat embossed in in white on a black card stock, cut it into a banner and adhered on top of the card using a double-sided foam tape.
