I really like cards with wreaths, no matter the season. It never gets boring for me and I wanted to create another one. This time however, I didn't draw or paint. I used a leaf die. A few months ago I bought two leave dies and while they weren't specific wreath dies, neither I bought them to make wreaths, nor they are autumnal. I can still use one of them to create a wreath. So if you have a leaf die, try making a wreath! I decided to go with colours of rainbow, channeling my inner Laura Bassen. Who was my inspiration, not only to use rainbow colours, but also to create a wreath. She is one of the few card makers I still watch and now and then she creates a wreaths and I'm always jealous when she uses a die, since I didn't have one. I don't really know why it took me so long to finally buy one. You can use a coloured card stock to die-cut. For sure it would go faster, but I decided to die-cut the leaves out of a white card stock and colour them with Distress inks. And I didn't just use one ink for each leave, I used two. I wanted to create a gradient. Of course you can use only one ink and fade the colour into white, or colour the whole leaf with just one ink. The ink combinations I used, starting with red, going anti-clockwise:
Distress inks are the only product that I kept on buying ever since I started card making, slowly adding into my collection. I think I’m missing only five inks. It became a sort of a collectible item for me. But in true honesty, you don't really need that many inks. QUESTION: Are there any products you like to conllect? Let me know in the comments. I was going to adhere all the branches directly on top of a card base. Before I did that, I stamped a greeting. I used an older Happy Birthday sentiment from a stamp set by Clearly Besotted. You can use what ever greeting fits your card, I just went through my stash and found this one. I also added a little bit of splatter using a black and brown watercolours. This is just to fill up the white space. You can skip it if you want. The branch with the leaves is not too big, but after I assembled the leaves into a circle, it wasn't fitting well. Maybe if I used a 5” x 7”. On the A6 card base, the branches were a little bit too big. I kind of expected that and I already knew that I probably will be cutting them a bit. I just cut off the bottom of each branch by 1.5cm. After I shorten them, I adhered foam adhesive on the back of the leaves. I had to cut the adhesive to very tiny pieces, which was quite tedious. If you do not feel like doing that, you can adhere the branches directly using a liquid glue. However, if you decide to use the foam tape, leave the top leaves without any adhesive, so the leaves can overlap each other. This depends on what kind of die you use. Once I had all the adhesive adhered, I attached the branches on top of the card base in a rainbow order. I should have drawn a circle before adhering the branches. I was eyeballing it and the circle was a little bit off. I also should have made one wreath in one colour to figure out how many branches I need. I would have needed one more and I was lazy to die-cut and blend another one and that's why the circle was a bit off. Also spreading the leaves a little bit more, would have also solved the issue. Never mind, the card looks very nice regardless. To finish it up, I adhered a few enamel dots around the wreath, which is completely optional. I hope you will try making this card yourself. Maybe not every leaf die will work, but many of them do. Make sure you check out my video on YouTube and give it a Like as well.
