I would like to add a few plants around our house, but since there are not many rooms that get a lot of direct sunlight, I need a plant that doesn't need much light. Additionally I'm looking for a plant that you can reproduce from the leaves. That plat is a snake plant. Sadly I haven't manage to obtain it yet (I need it to be sold in our local supermarket). It should be sold in Ikea, so hopefully, when we go to there, it will be in stock. So... while I wait to get the real thing, let's make a card with a snake plant! I started with a sketch, which I drew myself and you can download here. It is an outline of the image and you can printed on a Bristol card stock or Neenah Solar White and colour it with pencils or alcohol markers. However I wanted to use watercolours and so far I haven't had any success printing on a watercolour card stock. Solution? I printed it on a printer paper and covered the back with the lead of the pencil. Then I placed it on top of my watercolour card stock, traced the image with my pencil, which transferred the image on top of the watercolour panel. It's a soft impression, perfect for no line watercolouring. I used watercolours from Lidl, I bought them a few weeks ago and wanted to try them out. So far, I cannot complain. If you don't know what Lidl is, it's similar to Aldi, a supermarket with smaller selection of items and every week they have these offers of random stuff, like clothes, DIY tools, kitchen items and crafty stuff. One week they were selling watercolour paints in tubes and I thought I will give it a try. I squeezed out just a sample of each paint onto a laminated card stock, later I will actually squeeze them out onto a palette. I started by painting the pot and I chose to make it blue. And then I painted the individual leaves (not sure if they are called leaves). Online I found two main colours of the snake plant. Some of them have light green lines on the sides and in general are slightly lighter green and others are dark green. And both of them have these distorted dark green horizontal lines across the leaves. I was going for the dark green, but because I used the green directly from the tube (I didn't want to mix my own colour, just too lazy for that) the leaves are a little bit on the brighter side. As I was painting I was trying to be careful not to paint the leaves that are next to each other right away. I first painted the leaf at the bottom and then I painted one at the top. This way the leaves didn't get contaminated. I also painted the horizontal lines. If you can try to paint them when the leaf is wet, you should be able to get that distorted look. I painted the lines after it was dry, which looks good too. After I was done I painted the edges of the card stock using a brown paint. This is something I like to do. You can skip it. Another thing you can skip is adding a greeting. You can leave it without any words, perfectly ok to do that. However, I like to add a sentiment, so I picked a greeting that says "Congratulations", which I pre-stamped and heat embossed in white on a black card stock. I adhered the panel on top of a card base that I made out of a craft card stock, using a double sided tape. And lastly I attached the banner with the greeting that I adhered using a double-sided foam squares.
