Where I live it looks more like April than middle of the summer, however this should not hinder anyone from making cards for this season. There are plenty of summer card designs you can create and I have quite a few on my blog. There was though one specific image, that I painted multiple times and that is a cactus. Cactus is very easy to draw or paint and I put together some designs you can create for very simple cards not just for the summer. PAINT A LARGE CACTUSThis is a very simple cactus. I got the inspiration from a watercolour book I have. All you need is to paint a long middle stem that is rounded at the top and two curved branches attached to the middle. After the piece is dry, add lines along each of the green pieces and with a black fine-liner draw small V-shapes to represent the thorns. If you want you can paint a sandy ground as well. You can use green paint of your choice. I used watercolours, but other painting mediums would work. LANDSCAPE WITH CACTI SILHOUETTESMy third example has the same cactus shape as the previous ones, but this time I drew silhouettes of the cactus. I used watercolours and I started with the sky - blue at the top and yellow at the bottom. When the background was dry, I used white gouache and sprinkled stars across the blue part and let it dry again. Next I worked on the cacti silhouettes. I actually didn't use paints here, but a black alcohol marker. I started with the hill, then I drew the cacti and lastly I added some grass. If you do not have a black marker, you can use watercolours instead. CACTUS IN A TERRACOTTA POTThis cactus I painted for Valentine's day, but you can swap the hearts for flowers and make it for any occasion. I would say it is one of my favourite things that I ever painted. I started with a sketch which I transferred onto a watercolour card stock and then I coloured the whole image using watercolours. I hope you feel inspired by these four examples, they are prefect if you are new to card making and either do not have that many supplies, or do not want to spend too much on new products. And if you would like to see more ideas for cards not only for sommer, check out the full gallery, with all of my handmade cards. PIN MEDid you like the card? I would love, if you pinned it to your board on Pinterest!
