Are you looking for Christmas card ideas that are simple, beginner friendly, but also on a budget? If so I put together five Christmas card ideas that you can try out. All of them are painted with watercolours. Watercolours come in various price ranges and even the cheaper options are pretty good. Plus they are available across the world. ONE STROKE CHRISTMAS TREEThis card is the simplest as all you need to do is a single long wavy line. I used a golden paint on a black card stock, however you can use normal watercolour card stock and colours of your choice and write the greeting in a black pen. I think that would be a simpler alternative to this card idea. SIMPLE STRIPES CHRISTMAS TREEThe next Christmas card idea I have for you is another version of painting a Christmas tree. Here I made two cards one with watercolours and the other with acrylic paint, so if that's easier for you, you can use acrylic paints as well. All I did here are simple straight lines, increasing the width of the lines from top to bottom. I also painted the star at the top for which I used gold paint, but you can use yellow or golden gel pen. The red spots are created using Nuvo drops, but you can leave it out or once the painting is dry use the paints and paint small circles. SIMPLE BACKGROUNDSAnother very easy Christmas card idea is to create simple backgrounds. Just stripes in different sizes and directions. You can then add a printed Christmas image or just a greeting and the card is done. On my cards, some greetings I stamped, but some I wrote myself or used the Dymo label maker, which is not expensive. If yo do not have a black card stock, paint the card stock black and using a white gel pen you can write your greeting. LAST TIPS I buy watercolour card stock in the size A4 and cut it into panels in the size A6, or actually smaller than A6. I use a paper trimmer to cut the card stock. And I adhere the panel on top of a separate blank card, which you do not need to make yourself, you can buy them already pre-made with envelopes. I would highly recommend getting a paper trimmer, because even if you would buy A6 size watercolour card stock, it can be that you still need to trim the panel. You can do that with big scissors, but if you like card making, a paper trimmer is a good investment. You could use A5 watercolour card stock and fold it in half, but not only it is a waste of card stock, but since it's a thick card stock, it might crack when folding. So be careful, if you do that. Lastly, make sure you get a card stock that is specifically for watercolouring and weighs 300gsm (in the US 140lb). I hope you feel inspired by these five examples, they are prefect if you are new to card making and either do not have that many supplies, or do not want to spend too much on new products. I would love, if you pinned it to your board on Pinterest!
