Back in December I saw a post on Instagram from Gerda Steiner Design offering a very quite digital stamp for free. I love stamps by GSD, they are so cute. My favourite is the one with the guinea pigs. So I went to their website and downloaded that stamp right away, because already then I knew I want to make a Valentine's day card. Actually that's a lie, I named it Valentine's day card for this blog post and video, for me it is an anniversary card for my husband. Doesn't matter, the idea is the same. The stamp is called Coffee Mouse and you can download it through Gerda Steiner Designs website, just click here. Next week I will have a blog post and video about digital stamps, how to download them, print them and additional tips. So I won't go into detail in this article. I downloaded the stamp and printed it out. I like to use smaller card stock for the printing, in the size of my card. The card stock I used is the Canson Bristol. I decided to colour it using the Zig Brush Markers, which I find great for quick and simple colouring. I used them as I would use alcohol markers, with a very little water. You can also use them as watercolours, but for that I prefer to use a watercolour card stock. The colours I used: Mouse body: Blue grey, Light grey Feet: Natural beige Cheeks & Ears: Light pink Cup: Light green, Pale Green, Deep red, Carmine red, Brown I started with the greys, darker on the outside edges and around the cup. This is to create a depth and then I used the lighter grey and blended the colours together. Before I coloured the cup I let the grey dry as I didn't want the colours to contaminate. I used green for the cup, which colour you use is up to you. I coloured the heart red and the coffee brown. I coloured the feet using beige. Then I used a light pink and coloured the ears and cheeks and blended it out with a water-brush pen. Lastly I fussy cut the mouse using my scissors. When I was thinking about what to do for the background, I had a few option. Ink smooshing or fun watercolour background. In the end I used a background that I made for one of my Christmas cards. I made a background using Distress ink and a smaller circle stencil. The idea was to create a background filled with ornaments, but on my first try I placed the circles in a weird way and had to re-do it. However instead of throwing it away, I added a few more circles in a lighter shade and kept it for another card. If you would like to see the original video of the Christmas card, click here. You can do something different with the background, this part is completely up to you. I die-cut the background with a stitched rectangular die and adhered it on top of a grey card base. I thought that a grey card base perfectly matches the mouse. The mouse and a greeting I adhered on top of the background using a foam tape. For the greeting I used a sentiment that says "hugs & kisses", which I pre-made. I heat embossed it in white on a black card stock and fussy cut it. And that's it, the card is done! I hope you will try making this card yourself. Make sure you check out my video on YouTube and give it a Like as well.
