Mother's Day is next week, so let's make one more card for this occasion. This is actually a card that I'm giving to my mum, I was deciding between this card and the card where I painted the background with leaves. In the end I decided for this one as I love how colourful it is. The idea for this card I have from a few watercolouring videos I saw on Instagram, where the people masked the middle and painted flowers above and below it and then they wrote a greeting or a quote in the place where the masking tape was. To make this card I did not paint my own images, I used stamps. Here I’m using a stamp set from Newton’s Nook Designs with peony flowers. The stamp set is unimportant, you can use any stamp set you think would work. For example, the stamp set with roses that I used a few weeks back, would work as well. Also some stamps with critters would be perfect for this. I used the Canson XL watercolour card stock, as I'm using the Zig brash markers for the colouring. These markers can be used with or without water and for this card I'm using them as watercolours. I started by attaching a piece of washi tape in the middle of the card stock and then I started stamping. The stamp set has one big stamp with two flowers and two separate flower stamps. I started with the big stamp and stamped it in the middle using the Versafine ink in Onyx black. And because the flowers below the washi tape mirror the ones at the top, I just flipped the card stock and stamped it again. To stamp the two flowers on each side, I had to first create a mask to cover the big flower, so I don't stamp over it. I used a post-it note with a full adhesive on the back for it. Because the post-it note is too small to cover the whole stamped image, I created two masks and I placed them over the stamped flower. After that I stamped the two smaller flowers on each side. Next I started colouring. As I mentioned I'm watercolouring with the Zig brush markers. I applied the marker at the bottom of the petal or to the part of the petal that I thought would be the darkest and then I used a water-brush pen to spread the colour around. There were some places where I put only the marker, those were the tiny petals. I used four different colours to colour the petals and I changed the order of the colours for the bottom part. I made three cards, because I needed three and when I was editing the video, I noticed that on the card I photographed, I forgot to colour the middle of the flowers. I just didn't noticed, but the middle should be yellow. After I was done with the colouring, I removed the washi and stamped the greeting. For the greeting I used a sentiment stamp set by Clearly Besotted, because it fits in the little gap perfectly. This stamp set doesn't have any greeting for Mother's Day, but I thought using the words Just For You is great for this occasion. Lastly I adhered the panel on top of a card base that I made out of a craft card stock. I was thinking about adding a few sequins across the panel, but I don’t think this card needs it. The colours are so bright, they are their own embellishment. I hope you will try making this card yourself. Make sure you check out my video on YouTube and give it a Like as well.
